    The younger set doesn’t know this but there was major food rationing during WWII. Sugar, flour, bread, all rationed unless you made it yourself and that took rationed flour. Lots of stuff wasn’t around at all unless you were in uniform or an a farm you wern’t going to get eggs, or meat products at all regularly. Things like chocolate and soda didn’t exist outside a military base. Any vegetable you could grow yourself was a big thing back then. Hence the joys of potato salad. One potato could yeald 4 or more plants and lots more potatos to eat. Balanced diet? No way, but it filled the stomach.

    Uhhh… Both Gone With the Wind (1939) and The Wizzard of Oz (1939) were filmed in color. While color TV was not popular until “well after 1944″ the technology was available. In addition, the television may not have been this performance’s primary viewing medium. The cinema in those days commonly played short performances (such as this) or comedic sketches (such as The Three Stooges) before/after movies or during an intermission, for example. As for being “obviously colorized,” that is quite a statement given the poor pixel quality, age of original film when uploaded, and less than perfect color camera’s of the time. I would venture to say that it was originally shot in color, if for no other reason than your assumption comes out of pure ignorance.

    Btw, I realized that i misspelled “Wizzard” and had a typo in “Dumn.” I have not slept in 22 hours and am not paying attention to my spelling. I say this because people tend to rag on the person because they misspelled something rather than actually attempt to counter their argument, so I’m putting it out there so that that is not the case.

    Yes, I realize the irony of misspelling “dumb” in that context.

    It seems like it is the sole remaining clip of the Ross Sisters performing. This was for the 1944 musical “Broadway Rhythm” – this was a movie. This was very much a color picture, so it wasn’t “colorized” or the like. For what I read the story, itself, was pretty lame, and it didn’t have a spectacular cast for that time, either.

Although I’m under 30, I am quite well aware of the rationing that went on during WWII, and have been since grade school.
